Dear Community:New Look, New Mood: Our New Strategic Framework

Update from Ian ✨

ree

Over the past 12 months we have been hard at work developing our new strategic framework. What started out as task filled with many assumptions quickly turned into a journey of discovery. When Digital Girl Africa started in 2018 the goal was to provide as many women as possible with actionable digital skills so that they could launch their careers and businesses in the digital world. Most importantly, our goal was to eliminate the digital gender gap and make the digital economy inclusive and accessible for everyone. However, things didn't go as planned.

Running a tech-focused social entreprise in a society with existing gender biases such as women's lack of access to education, financial opportunties and more made it challenging for us to navigate the space of driving profit to fuel our impact. We spent a good amount of time trying to find ways to monitise the work that we do but non of them ever made sense. Why? women cannot afford it. It's as simple as that. This is when I started the great task of developing a new strategic framework that would allow us to expand our impact and reach while still remaining sustainable as a business. So what is our new strategic framework?

  1. Neue-Gen Bootcamps: where women who are interested in building and growing sustainable and inspiring digital careers and businesses can access digital skills, career support, mentorship, opportunities and an inspiring community.

  2. Neue-Gen Network: our new digital ecosystem and marketplace is something we have been ideating for the past two years. We wanted to create a space that would make it easier for women to access digital skills, resources and our support, without having to wait for the next announcement. This truly is a turning point in our work and is a big deal for us. So stay tuned for more information on the network and how you can gain access to it.

  3. Research and Reports: over the past 6+ years, we have followed all the trends, reports and researches about technology and women in Africa, but regardless of the amount of content that is out there we still feel like there is very big gap in research concerning women and tech in Africa. That's why we have introduced a new portfolio that will focus on producing more local and nuanced research and reports on the state of women and tech in Africa.

Gear up for a long year of changes and massive impact!
